Some ado about Much Ado About Nothing:

If you’re reading this, it’s probably safe to assume you are a fan of Joss Whedon, or are at least familiar with his work (or you stumbled here by accident, in which case Hi!). While I’m sure you all know that he’s been working on the Avengers movie, how many of you know that he’s already filmed a completely separate movie? And if you couldn’t guess by the title, that movie is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

There has only been one previous wide-release adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing (at least that’s what imdb says). The Whedon version has a cast of many of his friends and former cast members. The main characters of the play include Amy Acker (Illyria from Angel) and Alexis Denisof (Wesley Wyndam-Pryce from Angel) as Beatrice and Benedick. Two people who are always insulting/arguing with each other. Fran Kranz (Topher from Dollhouse) and Jillian Morgese (in her acting debut) play Claudio and Hero, a madly in love couple who plot to get Beatrice and Benedick to admit that they actually love each other. Other characters include the villain, Don John (played by Sean Maher, who was Dr. Tam in Firefly) and the bumbling constable Dogberry (played by Nathan Fillion from Firefly, Dr. Horrible). While the movie doesn’t have a set release date yet, the website proudly boasts that it has finished principal photography, and was filmed in just 12 days.

As a fan of sci-fi and Shakespeare, I can’t wait to see what Whedon has done with this classic story.
